Sports is a multi-billion dollar business and today’s market is as competitive as ever. This CLE course, presented by Robert Boland, J.D., Athletics Integrity Officer at Penn State University, will examine the most critical aspects of sports contracts and the many legal areas where they may crossover. The course will look at the contracts as they relate to collectively bargained player agreements such as with the NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL as well as those agreements that include personal services such as coaching, broadcasting, and managerial elements. Endorsement and licensing as well as termination trends, injunctive relief, rights limitations and extension, and liquidates damages will be addressed along with the ethical concerns that negotiators grapple with in drafting, negotiating and enforcing contracts. Examples will be taken from actual contracts and issues that have arisen in recent years.
