    There is a complex set of requirements for establishing an estate fiduciary in order to continue to pursue personal injury and/or wrongful death actions. This CLE course will offer personal injury attorneys with a basic understanding of the estate administration requirements as well as insight into the ramifications of a case settlement for personal injury and\or wrongful death. The course will also explain the basics of resolving outstanding liens as part of such a settlement.

    Jarrett Roth

    Mr. Roth’s practice focuses on trusts and estates, unclaimed property compliance and asset recovery, and commercial and corporate transactions. Mr. Roth counsels his clients on all general corporate matters, including personnel, regulatory compliance and contractual issues. Mr. Roth has also regularly counseled and represented clients including the Public Administrator of Kings County, New York and publicly traded financial institutions relating to trusts and estates administration, estate planning, estate litigation, unclaimed property compliance and real estate. 

    Mr. Roth regularly assists estate attorneys, research firms, and professional genealogists throughout the United States and abroad in their efforts to locate individuals, recover dormant assets, and prove kinship in estate proceedings. Mr. Roth has also handled all aspects of the prosecution and defense of administration proceedings, probate proceedings, wrongful death compromise proceedings, final accounting proceedings, kinship hearings, auctions and sales and closings of real property, and the collection of estate assets. 

    Mr. Roth regularly drafts and supervises the execution of last wills and testaments. Mr. Roth has been recognized in Court as an expert in genealogical research and has provided expert testimony in kinship hearings. Mr. Roth is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Mr. Roth graduated from Indiana University (2002) and from Yeshiva University, Cardozo School of Law (2005).


    Suzanne Thau

    Suzanne Thau is of counsel in the Trusts & Estates Department. She concentrates her practice in estate and tax planning, advising individuals with regards to: 1. preparation of wills and trust agreements; 2. preparation and review of probate petitions and federal estate tax returns; 3. trust administration, including preparation and review of trust accountings, receipt and release agreements, decanting documents, and various Surrogate’s Court petitions and ; 4. development of tax driven solutions for clients in various situations, including those with limited partnership and closely held corporate interests.

    Ms. Thau is the co-author of: Suzanne Thau & Jonathan Blattmachr, Introduction to Tax Effects of Conservation Easements–Part 1, ESTATE PLANNING (Dec. 2011); Suzanne Thau & Jonathan Blattmachr, Introduction to Tax Effects of Conservation Easements–Part 2, ESTATE PLANNING (Jan. 2012). Suzanne graduated from New York University Stern School of Business (2020) and New York University School of Law (2005).


    Brett Newman

    Brett Newman graduated with a degree in economics from Syracuse University in 1989. As managing partner of The Lien Resolution Group, Mr. Newman is known nationally by plaintiff attorneys for his expertise on claims avoidance and reduction.
