James A. Hochman, Esq.
James A. Hochman has practiced law for more than 40 years. As senior vice president for CBRE, Inc. for 22 years (1982 – 2004) he counseled all divisions of the world’s largest commercial brokerage and real estate services firm covering 20 states in the central US and Canada. For the last 16 years, he has continued representing real estate brokers in both large and small firms.
His practice includes drafting, enforcing, and litigating to collect brokerage fees, asserting and foreclosing broker liens, and counseling firms and brokers on interstate brokerage and license portability. He is either the drafter or a contributor to most of the 34 broker lien statutes in the US and several of the different statutes on license portability.
He defends license law violation cases, and teaches classes for brokers and for other attorneys. He has also taught real estate courses in the JD and LLM programs at two Chicago area law schools. In addition, Mr. Hochman writes two quarterly columns for the Society of Industrial & Office Realtors.
