About This Course

Domestic relations cases are always tricky. This CLE course will present the basic issues that face attorneys in these types of cases as well as the importance of encouraging counsel between parties. The long term ramifications, both financial and otherwise, of divorce and the resulting single parent homes, will be addressed as a means to provide the language to discuss these issues with clients. Tactical strategies for navigating family law matters will also be presented.

Lecturer Bio

Charles S. Bracey, Esq.

Kelly & Bracey has represented nearly a thousand clients since its inception. Both of the partners, Attorney Bracey and Attorney Kelly, came from very humble beginnings from the South Side of Chicago and Gary, Indiana respectfully. The partners have done very well and look forward to continued growth. The firm recently opened an office in Indiana to complement its Chicago Loop address and is also looking to expand into other states. Mr. Bracey serves as an arbitrator to hear cases involving matters such as car accident cases and breach of contract disputes.

He tutored Civil Procedure and Torts for the Student Bar Association and American Bar Association while he was in law school. He also won the Dunnings Law Firm award for legal research while he was in law school. As an undergraduate at Knox College, Mr. Bracey won a Ronad E. McNair Fellowhip and lectured in states like Utah and Pennsylvania as an aspiring 19 year old. As a practitioner he has helped to resolve millions of dollars in marital assets, debts and child support. He has also helped to reunite children with their parents through his family law practice.

Before he became an attorney, Mr. Bracey worked for insurance companies for approximately ten years, and it seemed natural that he would simply practice exclusively in the personal injury arena as he finished near the top of his class in torts. But something happened on the way that changed his life: his son was a victim of parental kidnapping for years before he became an attorney. Because of what he endured, those circumstances led Mr. Bracey to devote his law practice to family law with an emphasis on reuniting children with their parents. His business motto is rooted in a simple belief: every child needs both parents to survive. He uses an aggressive form of litigation with the aim of pressuring the parties into shared time with the children. The partnership has also defended and recovered millions in injury settlements.

In practice, the firm litigated the matter that allowed an African American boy to attend a Jewish school; the firm litigated a nursing home case that made the headlines with the Chicago Tribune. The firm litigated the guardianship case for a local high school basketball star who was murdered. The firm has given lectures in the inner city high school and grammar schools of Chicago like Leo High School and St. Phillip Neri on the topic of the importance of obtaining a law degree.

Mr. Bracey is also an usher, writes plays and music in his spare time, and has been happily married to Dr. Regina Bracey for 15 years.
