Donita M King is the owner of Donita King Law Offices, PLC (formerly CMG
Collaborative Law Offices, PLC), and Adjunct Professor, Mediation, at T.C. Williams
School of Law (University of Richmond Law School).
Donita is an arbitrator, and Virginia Supreme Court certified mediator at all levels – civil
and domestic (including cross border and international parental abduction prevention
mediation and Hague issues), FINRA (“Financial Industry Regulatory Authority”)
Arbitrator and Mediator, Virginia Agricultural Mediator, and Collaborative Practice
attorney and trainer.
Licensed as attorney in Pennsylvania (1978), Virginia (1999), and District of Columbia
(2003). Trainings include Virginia CLE – “ The Art of Commercial Mediation” (Cotrainer, 2018); Advance Mediation Skills – Civil and Family; Multi-party Mediation;
Communication Skills for Interest Based Negotiation; Impact of Personality in
Negotiation and Mediation; Impact of Culture in Negotiation and Mediation; Specialized

Previously, Donita spent 24 years as an in-house corporate attorney of fortune 100
insurance and financial services companies, leaving the industry in 2002. She is a former
managing attorney of The Prudential, and her last corporate position was General
Counsel responsible for the Legal and Compliance Departments of one of the Genworth
companies (Richmond, VA Operations). Her responsibilities included litigating and
managing major litigation, regulatory, employment and labor, commercial and a variety
of other legal matters.
Donita was 2015 Chair of the Virginia Bar and Bar Association’s joint ADR Council and
was for several years on the Virginia Governor’s Dispute Resolution Council. She is a
member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals (“IACP”), a
founding member of Virginia Collaborative Professionals (“VaCP), a member of
Collaborative Professionals of Richmond (“CPR”), a FINRA (Financial Industry
Regulatory Authority, formerly “NASD”) authorized arbitrator (now Chair status) and
mediator, and a member of the VA, PA, and D.C. Bars.
Donita received her B.A. in Economics from La Salle University in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, and her J.D. from Villanova University School of Law in Villanova,
Pennsylvania. While at La Salle, she was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon (the
National Honor Society of Economics) and was awarded a Ford Fellowship to study
Advanced Economic Theory at the University of California/Berkeley. In addition, she
obtained her series 6 securities license when she worked for Genworth, and for many
years held the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriting Certification (C.P.C.U.), a
recognized insurance industry designation.
Donita has mediated over 5,000 cases (in various substantive areas, civil and domestic
relations, including those involving multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi -religious
