This CLE course, designed for attorneys working for or with the federal government, will review the fundamentals of government ethics laws as they are defined by the US Government Office of Government Ethics.

The course will begin with a presentation on the statutory and regulatory bases for this specific body of law and will then address some of the more common ethical issues faced by government attorneys. The course will discuss government property with an emphasis on information technology and government owned vehicles.

The course will also deal with contractor/employee issues and the respective roles of government personnel vs. contractor personnel. Guidelines for ethics counselors to provide for their clients will be presented before moving on to issues such as gift-giving, particularly from prohibited sources (such as those doing business with the government, and the common issue of fundraising in federal workplaces.

The course will conclude with a discussion of post-government employment ethics and the many issues related to when and how former government employees may seek employment with businesses who work with the federal government.
