About This Course
Across the country, criminal record clearing is reshaping opportunities for people with past convictions and transforming approaches to justice. This CLE program offers attorneys and advocates a deep dive into the legal, procedural, and human dimensions of record relief. Participants will explore the latest developments in expungement and sealing laws, learn practical strategies for preparing petitions and supporting materials, and refine their advocacy through storytelling, client preparation, and persuasive presentation.
The course also examines how record clearing intersects with employment and reintegration, with special attention to the Criminal History Record Information Act (CHRIA). Presenters will discuss how CHRIA’s protections can be leveraged to reduce barriers to work and guide clients through disclosure decisions. By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped to navigate complex record relief systems while helping clients move forward with dignity and confidence.
