About This Course
Regardless of whether you are representing the plaintiff or the defendant, or whether it is a standard or high frequency/high visibility case, this CLE course will help you master the trial of a police liability case under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. e.
The course will present practical examples that illustrate the pretrial and settlement conference as well as strategies for witness preparation before delving into the trail itself. This will include a discussion of jury selection for your side, opening statements, effective examination and cross-examination of both plaintiff and defense witnesses with regards to liability and damages, and tips for the best closing arguments.
The course will also provide strategies for jury instructions, handling the qualified immunity defense if it survives for trial and verdict forms. The course will conclude with a discussion of post-trial motions and fee petitions for prevailing plaintiffs.
