    Defendant statements in a criminal trial are subject to rules governing their admissibility. This CLE course will explain the relevant constitutional rights such as the Fifth, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments and will specifically address the Texas law relating to confession admissibility. The differences between Texas and federal law in this regard will be examined.

    Adela Kowalski

    Adela Kowalski-Garza is a practicing attorney with 30 years of experience in criminal law and criminal jury trials. She is not board certified. Kowalski-Garza is a graduate of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. She is a former federal prosecutor for the Southern District of Texas and is presently the first-chair prosecutor in the 404th District Court for the state of Texas in Cameron County.

    She has taught in the criminal justice department since 2003 various criminal law and evidence classes, including Fundamentals of Criminal Law, Legal Aspects of Evidence, Forensic Evidence and Criminal Evidence and Proof. .
