About This Course
What happens when the pressures of practicing law begin to affect the way attorneys treat colleagues, opposing counsel, clients, and the courts? This CLE program explores the growing intersection between professional incivility and lawyer well-being, examining how the demands and adversarial nature of legal practice can contribute to unhealthy professional behaviors—and how those behaviors can, in turn, take a toll on attorney wellness.
The program will examine common forms of incivility, including bullying, excessive demands, hostility, and discourteous communications, while considering the role that stress, burnout, and other wellness challenges may play in escalating professional conflicts. Attendees will also explore how evolving communication practices, increased polarization, and pressure to win can complicate the distinction between zealous advocacy and inappropriate conduct.
Through practical discussion and real-world considerations, attorneys will learn strategies for identifying and addressing incivility, managing difficult interactions, establishing appropriate professional boundaries, and promoting a more respectful and sustainable approach to the practice of law.
