About This Course
Artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in everyday legal practice, raising important questions about how long-standing ethical duties apply in a technology-driven environment. This ethics CLE explores the intersection of AI-enabled tools and lawyers’ professional responsibilities under existing Rules of Professional Conduct, emphasizing that while the rules themselves remain largely unchanged, their application continues to evolve.
The program examines how the use of AI impacts core ethical obligations, including competence, client communication, confidentiality of information, supervision of work, and duties of candor to courts and third parties. Particular attention is given to risks associated with accuracy, overreliance on automated outputs, verification of information, and the preservation of independent professional judgment.
Designed with practical realities in mind, the course also addresses operational pressures such as efficiency demands, increased workloads, and technology-driven expectations from clients and employers. Participants will leave with a clear framework for evaluating the ethical use of AI in legal practice and practical guidance on integrating emerging technologies while remaining compliant with professional responsibility requirements.
