About This Course
This CLE program examines the ethical framework governing law office management, with a particular focus on the supervision of non-lawyer staff and subordinate attorneys. While many practitioners are familiar with the Rules of Professional Conduct in theory, their practical application in day-to-day firm operations often presents nuanced challenges and potential risk exposure.
The course will provide a comprehensive analysis of a lawyer’s supervisory responsibilities, including the duty to ensure compliance with ethical obligations across all levels of the practice. Topics will include the parameters of competent representation, conflict identification and management, ethical considerations in client intake and engagement, oversight of client matters and file handling, proper file retention and closing procedures, and the maintenance of accurate and ethical billing practices.
