About This Course
Obtaining a presidential pardon involves far more than completing an application. This CLE program takes an in-depth look at the legal framework, procedures, and practical challenges surrounding executive clemency, with particular attention to how attorneys can guide clients through the presidential pardon process. Topics will include the scope of the President’s constitutional pardon authority, the distinctions between pardons and commutations, and the government officials and offices involved in reviewing and evaluating clemency requests.
The program will provide a practical walkthrough of the pardon application, examining what information applicants must provide, how to build a persuasive case, and the importance of supporting documentation and letters of recommendation. Attendees will also explore the involvement of outside consultants and intermediaries, common mistakes that can undermine an application, and the steps that follow once a request has been submitted. The course will offer attorneys valuable insight into the mechanics of seeking executive clemency and the considerations that can shape a successful pardon application
