About This Course
This CLE program examines significant recent developments across the sports law landscape, with particular attention to the rapidly changing legal and regulatory framework governing college athletics. The course will address the continued professionalization of collegiate sports, the impact of the House settlement, and the wave of litigation challenging athlete eligibility and governance issues that remain unresolved. Participants will also explore the role of Executive Branch policy initiatives and the possibility of future congressional action aimed at creating greater stability and uniformity within college sports.
The program will also review key developments in professional sports law, including commissioner authority, arbitration and disciplinary disputes following the Flores litigation, and evolving labor issues in major sports leagues. Additional discussion will focus on collective bargaining developments in the WNBA and NWSL, potential labor concerns in MLB, and the expanding legal complexities surrounding sports gambling, prediction markets, and overlapping state and federal regulatory authority. The course concludes with an overview of other emerging issues and trends shaping the future of sports law.
