About This Course
The growing use of artificial intelligence in the comics industry is creating new legal challenges involving copyright, authorship, ownership, and infringement. As AI tools become increasingly capable of generating artwork, scripts, and character concepts, creators and rights holders must navigate an unsettled legal landscape.
This CLE examines the developing U.S. copyright framework for AI-assisted works, including the Copyright Office’s human authorship requirements and recent federal court decisions addressing protection for works created with or by AI. The program also considers how AI-generated content can affect chain of title, licensing, enforcement, and potential liability.
Attorneys will explore practical ways to address these issues in their own practice, including documenting the human contribution to creative works, drafting agreements that account for AI-generated material, addressing disclosure and ownership concerns, and establishing policies that help clients manage legal exposure as AI becomes part of the creative process.
