About This Course
Firefighters and other emergency responders routinely make split-second decisions in unpredictable and hazardous environments, often with limited information and competing public safety concerns. While their primary mission is to protect lives and property, those actions can also give rise to complex legal questions regarding duty, immunity, negligence, and civil liability.
This CLE course provides attorneys with a practical overview of the legal principles governing civil claims involving firefighters and other first responders. Participants will examine the legal duties owed during emergency response operations, the standards of care applied by courts, and the statutory and common law protections that may limit liability. The program will also explore common causes of action, defenses, and recent developments affecting litigation involving emergency personnel, equipping attorneys with a stronger understanding of this specialized area of public safety law.
