About This Course
Real estate transactions face increasing scrutiny from both regulators and industry stakeholders as fraud schemes grow more complex and technology creates new opportunities for bad actors. Attorneys and other real estate professionals must be prepared to recognize compliance concerns, evaluate transaction risks, and implement procedures that help protect clients and facilitate successful closings.
This CLE program explores the intersection of underwriting compliance and fraud prevention in residential and commercial real estate transactions. Participants will examine how underwriters assess risk, identify red flags that may signal fraud or noncompliance, and apply due diligence measures designed to detect problems before they impact a transaction. The program will address common threats such as identity fraud, forged documents, wire fraud, title defects, and emerging risks associated with artificial intelligence and digital impersonation technologies.
The presentation will also discuss practical compliance strategies, verification protocols, and documentation practices that support sound underwriting decisions. In addition, attendees will gain insight into the role of title insurance in risk management, common sources of claims, and the collaborative relationship among attorneys, title insurers, and underwriters in safeguarding real estate transactions.
